Abandoned at 16
In 2022, 16-year-old Rita was referred to Home of Hope. After becoming pregnant, her boyfriend denied responsibility and abandoned her. To make matters worse, Rita’s aunt, with whom she had been living, threw her out, forcing her to survive on the streets with no support.
Begged for food & shelter
Desperate and with no resources, Rita begged for food and shelter wherever she could find it. When she arrived at Home of Hope, she was taken for a full medical check-up, where an ultrasound revealed that her baby had hydrocephalus, a condition causing an enlarged head. A C-section was immediately scheduled, as natural delivery would have been impossible due to the size of the baby’s head. Without medical intervention, both Rita and her baby would likely not have survived.
Coming to Home of Hope quite literally saved Rita’s life. When she arrived, she had nothing but the clothes on her back. Initially, Rita was too weak to care for her newborn, Calvin, who was temporarily placed with a foster carer.
Answer To Prayer
Calvin has been reunited with his mother, and Rita is learning to care for her son. Thanks to Home of Hope, Rita now has food, shelter, comfort, and most importantly, hope for the future!
